He is the 19-year-old son of one of Burma’s wealthiest tycoon, Tay Za. Tay Za is now one of the primary targets of new sanctions imposed by the United States due to his close link to the hated junta and is fighting to keep his millions. By cutting off Tay Za and other top businessmen’s access to sources of income that benefit the junta regime, the Bush administration hopes to hit the generals where it hurts most – their pockets.
However, Htet Tay Za appears to be disconcerned about his father’s plight or the situation in Burma. He is a student in the United World College of Southeast Asia in Singapore and appears to be living it up, judging from an email allegedly sent by him to his friends. The email, which has been widely circulated on the Internet and believed to be genuine, was accompanied with photos of him partying with pretty girls, saying: “US bans us. We’re still fucking cool in Singapore.”
The email continues: “We’re sitting on the whole Burmese GDP. We’ve got timber, gems and gas to be sold to other countries like Singapore, China, India and Russia. My brother is rocking on his red brand-new Lamborghini with hot sexy Western chicks… and I need another Ferrari to rock on.”
What can we say man… if the email is true, this guy is worst than Paris Hilton.

Htet Tay Za is just 14 years old boy and he don’t know what GDP is.
If you hate people just personally hate them but he is still just a child and why you people want to destroy other’s life. The email link may be stolen by other people who jealous of him or may be who is politically involved want to destroy the reputation of him.

There were indeed mention of a HTOO Htet Tayza who is born in 1993 (14 years old). However, I am not sure if he’s the same person.

Htoo Htet Tayza is his full name, the sites that state that hes 19 are either blogs or unauthentic sites, but the sites that states hes 14 are government org sites, such as banks etc, which list the people who are band from the EU and the USA. i have found out that United World College of South East Asia is a K-12 international school in Singapore (www.uwcsea.edu.sg), and a high school age limit is 18 , done the research

He is also a good friend and person, and have never ever heard him speak like that to anyone. He just turned 15 a few weeks ago, United World College is a school that goes up to grade 12 like ISY because my boyfriend came from there. You people need to get your facts straight because you’re all stupid and assuming stuff about people who you dont even know the real age of. There may have been mistakes on his age but I think all the friends who have written in are forgetting one thing. He may be a 14 year old and may be having a ‘bad’ time because of all this. However, his father is openly known to support in many ways, the Senior General and his family. What Htet is going through is nothing compared to the many 14 year old boys in Myanmar, who’s fathers/mothers/relatives have been tortured and imprisoned for political reasons. Unfortunately, many of those who are friends of Htet live in their bubbles.
So, sorry, no, I do not feel sorry for him. And he is 14 – with a father and background like his, he is old enough to question why things are happening as they are. And no, Sept was not the result of CNN and the BBC or the US, or ‘bad’ monks. It was the result of people suffering. If Htet and his father listened for once to the NGOs or people outside his circle, then they may be able to make a difference. Until then, sorry, I do not feel ’sorry’ for Htet!

I am a close friend of Htet’s and i can assure you this is all false. Htet is a really nice and incredibly down to earth guy and this is definately NOT something he would write i assure you. through some discussions with htet himself i’ve gathered that he has allot of respect for the Burmese people and he and understands very well that he is fortunate enough to be as wealthy as he is and he certainly does not take his family’s wealth for granted. Htet often stops to give homeless people on the street money and often reminds himself not to forget where his family came from as the Tay Za family were not always as wealthy as they are today.
It is a shame to se all the hate shown towards his father as in fact the entire family are very nice and generous people. Tay Za’s money is in fact not corupt or “dirty”, he is a very kind man and i certainly do not see many of the negative things he has been accused of being realistic. Tay Za is only doing what most people are doing, and that it earning a living for himself and his family and i assure you he is by no means doing so in a fashion which disrespects human rights and morals. It is a shame to see such a family targetted so negatively by ignorant people who clearly spoken before actually taking the time to properly understand the situation

His father’s business ventures include forceful overtaking of other legitimate business ventures, land, property, you name it, he’s done it, with the authority of the junta.
The many posh cars he ride or those connected, does not even require registration plates. He is above the law.
The education his son gets, is at the cost of the people of Myanmar’s suffering.
Stopping this man means pulling out from the roots, and it goes down the family tree.
Young as his son maybe, is a fruit of the man causing suffering of the Myanmar people, benefiting and revelling in his fathers wealth.
As youth who surround him may enjoy some spill over of this wealth from the parties and excursions that abound through associating with him, will of course have something to say in his defence.
Well only people who are close to tayza and his family know what tayza is doing about. In foreign country most of the business man are doing the same thing as tayza and nobody got blame nor accuse like everyone is doing to tayza. He is purely the Business man who happen to be get along with everyone. So dont be jealous about this. Look at the bright side as he is doing a lot of good things for Burmese people. Who can get away with doing a business like him from this military junta. So let him do what he is doing the best for the Burma with or without help from anyone who only accusing(yak yak yak) and not doing a small portion of good things for Burma.

If legitimacy of a business is centred on gun running, drug dealing, skiving off our nation’s natural resources, reaping profits in partnership with the junta, then can we also have a chance at engaging in the same activities?
Can we have the same kind of access to our natural resources for our businesses as he has? On the same access level?
Muyar, the legitimacy of a business is whether its an activity that the business community is, as a whole can fairly participate and not limited to a handful few that the junta has recognised as their income generating units.
And legitimacy of a business certainly do not come at the at the cost, the plight, and the suffering of our people.
You speak for the few, you are influenced by them. Remember, we are a nation of 53 million people and the majority of us know what we want.
And we certainly do not believe that he is doing the ‘best’ for our nation and us. You use the terms ‘good things for Burmese people’ and ‘best for the Burma’. I use the terms ‘our nation’ and ‘us’.

It is easy to see this email is a fake. Look at phrases like “sitting on the whole Burmese GDP”. It’s supposed to be a very informal email to close friends (the tone makes it sound like one). Would you say things like ‘the whole Burmese GDP’ in such emails?. Then comes ‘We’ve got timber, gems and gas’ to be sold to other ‘countries like Singapore, China, India and Russia’. Would you list things like that in such informal emails? “his red brand-new Lamborghini ” Why would he be so specific, red, brand-new (with a hyphen), Lamborghini (can you spell that)? “hot sexy Western chicks” Why Western chicks? Because the fake writer wanted to add an emotional word for his target audience from the west. Why did he make the age 19? Simple, to justify his attack on a minor. This is apparently the work of a Western journalist; only journalists write like this.

It’s not any Myanmar tycoon who is helping the military government to hang on to their hold on Myanmar. They do not care if all the tycoons disappear suddenly. Their main supporters are the Americans and the Europeans. American energy company Chevron and French company Total are providing the military government with $3 billion per year.
The most beautiful thing they (US and EU) did is this. With the so-called targeted sanctions against private Myanmar companies, they turned the attention and anger of gullible people like you towards Myanmar companies. They listed over one thousand Myanmar companies for sanctions, but they left out all of their own companies and joint ventures with them.
You know, all the income form all other industries combined is less than 20% of what the Americans and the Europeans are providing the government.
Then they turned Myanmar against Myanmar. It’s a double whammy for them because when the Myanmar companies go out of business they will take over.
And they are saying times have changed. I do not think international politics have changed much. It’s the same old game of the times of East India Company. And with ignorant young people like you, I’m worried about the future of Myanmar when it falls into your hands in due time.

Htet Tay Za is a just a 15 year old boy living in Singapore, I go to school with him and he’s one of my good friends, whether his family have anything to do with the atrocities in Burma is regardless. He has no say in any of it and if anything in his family is related to the Junta he certainly is not at all aware or interested in it. As if he would ever right such an email, he is not like that at all and never ever shows off his supposed superior wealth, he has never attacked the US at all and claims of what he said in an email are TOTALLY untrue. He is a clever guy, good at school, music and has a normal life which is all a 15 year old kid should want or need. Before you start coming in with all your low life accusations, AT LEAST get his age right and also think about what it’s like for him to find articles about him being compared to Paris Hilton when he’s only 15.
