Beat It (the Singapore ping pong song): Mr Brown’s tribute to Lee Bee Wah

31 08 2008

One of Singapore’s favourite blogger, Mr Brown’s song tribute to the very efficient and decisive Singapore’s Table Tennis Association President, Ms Lee Bee Wah:

My take on the whole incident is that Ms Lee Bee Wah, regardless of the reasons behind her actions, destroyed a once in 48 years PR opportunity for the Singapore government to get its citizens to embrace foreign talents, forget about the current economics hardship and unite as one nation behind a glorious Olympics medal win.

Now, celebration mood is dampen, the debate on foreign talent is reignited, the nation is disgruntled. Yes, she may have sincerely apologised yesterday morning, but the damage is already done.

I bought a MacBook Pro and an Acer PC today!

30 08 2008

Feeling rather broke now… I just bought a MacBook Pro for myself at the Comex fair at Suntec. I took the 15 inch one with a 4GB ram upgrade and extended Apple Care Protection. Damage to my wallet = S$3287. I also boughta desktop PC from Acer for S$548 for my dad’s use. I think the latter is quite a steal – cheap and good.

Total damage = S$3835 (heartache!)

Nonetheless, the upgrades were necessary. Both the desktop PC and my eMac were down, as mentioned in a previous blog entry. I had the PC for almost 7 years, and the eMac for almost 5 years.

Michael Phelps Spoofs

29 08 2008

Saw these via EDMW. Obvious spoofs, but still very funny nonetheless. People seem to enjoy poking fun of Michael Phelps, despite his magnificent seven Olympics gold medals haul. It must be his jug ears and lanky frame, giving him a goofy overall look, begging to be teased.

Enough said. Let’s get to the spoofs. :)

First one is a moving GIF depicting Phelps as a 超级塞亚人, commonly seen in Dragaon Ball manga/anime:

The second one is a video cleverly edited to depict Phelps as a very bad winner:

TODAY online kena Hacked?

28 08 2008

Check out the side bar on the screengrab below:

Here’s an enlarged image of the side bar:

Wonder who’s the culprit… A hacker from Turkey or Israel? Or was it an uploading error? It can also be the work of an unappreciated intern or employee. :)

Worst Athlete at the Beijing Olympics

27 08 2008

Jacques Rogge, Chairman of the International Olympics (IOC) committee may have chided the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt for his showy behaviour, but I think Bolt would seem like an angel (pun intended) next to Cuba’s takekwondo representative, Angel Valodia.

Instead of delivering kicks to his opponents to score points, the Cuban kicked the referee in his Bronze-medal match against Kazakhstan’s Arman Chilmanov and got himself banned for life from taekwondo. Apparently, he was upset with the referee’s decision to disqualify him for taking too long to tend to an injury.

I happened to saw his ruthless kick delivered straight to the poor referee’s head on TV while watching the Olympics. It was quite a shocker as I did not expect to see such bad behaviour at a global sporting event.

Whatever was running through Valodia’s head during that critical moment, we would not know, but what I do know is violence is never the solution to anything.

Valodia has earned himself a place in history now. Not for winning a medal, but for being the worst athlete at the Beijing Olympics.
