Who are these cheap grace preachers that Pastor Kong Hee is slamming? Some of the comments to the two videos  pointed to Pastor Joseph Prince and the New Creation Church.

City Harvest and New Creation are probably the two fastest growing and biggest church congregations in Singapore today. I am an atheist and am unfamiliar with the Christianity world. Are these two churches at loggerhead with each other?

Poly or JC?

I usually do not click on Google text ads, but this particular website caught my attention – http://polyorjc.sg/

I was thinking – finally, the folks at our Ministry of Education (MOE) has noticed the lack of higher education guidance at the secondary school level (it was so during my era, not sure if there’s improvement now) and has decided to do something about it.

Alas, the website is not produced by MOE, but rather, the very innovative Singapore Polytechnic (SP), probably as part of their recruitment campaign.

Try googling phrases like “Poly or JC” or “Poly vs JC”. You will find that SP has done their research and cleverly bought into paid search listing as well as done the right SEO to prop up the natural listing for their campaign website.

The website itself is nifty too – utilising social network tools like twitter, facebook and blogs to reach out to the youths.

I like this marketing campaign. Well done SP. If I am a secondary school student now, I will definitely go check out SP’s open house.

Pocelain Ferrari

Via CLing. I am not much of a car fanatic, but this one-off version of the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano is a real fine work of art.

The unique car, hand-painted with Song Dynasty Ge kiln pottery pattens, is a collaboration between Ferrari and leading Chinese artist, Lu Hao.

For extra authenticity, Lu Hao used a “cracked glaze”pattern, with raised ridges designed to simulate cracks in the surface of ancient porcelain.

Inside the 599, the traditional Ferrari ‘Start’ button on the steering wheel is jade-encrusted and the numbers on the rev counter are written in ancient Chinese  script. In the boot, there is a luggage set etched with depictions of the Silk Road.

The car was sold for a princely sum of S$2.5 million in an auction in Beijing, graced by former F1 world champion, Michael Schumacher.

Concert poster

I grew up listening to these dudes. How can I miss their concert when I hear that two of the disbanded Beyond members, Paul Wong (黄贯中) and Yip Sai Wing (叶世荣) are getting together for a concert at Lunar?

Back in my teens, I will buy all their albums and go for their autograph sessions whenever they come to Singapore. I won’t call myself a junkie as I don’t scream and go gaga when I see them, but I do appreciate their brand of rock music.

The concert opens with a few numbers from Sai Wing’s solo albums. Sai Wing is better known as a drummer than a singer and it was rather weird seeing him with a mic.

Paul then took the stage with his guitar and belted a few numbers from his solo albums. This guy is rock steady and still looks as stylo-milo as he was a decade ago.

Then came the moment the crowd were all waiting for – the two members of Beyond got together to belt out some of Beyond’s greatest hits. The crowd went totally wild. Here’s two videos which I recorded to share. Enjoy:

I think I must have sampled over 20 little cups of instant noodles of all brands and all flavours. Particularly worth mentioning were a few flavours which Koka have yet to launch in the local market.

There’s a lot that goes on in the production process for a simple item like a packet of instant noodle which we take for granted. From the R&D to the taste test to the production to the marketing of the product – all requires much unseen efforts.

The staff at Tat Hui Foods gave us valuable insights into their business operations and I sincerely appreciate it.

Controversial Malaysian singer/songwriter, Name Wee/ Wee Chee Meng, is at it again. This time, his target is Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia’s national power supply company.

After allegedly experiencing the third blackout in his home since his return to Muar, Name Wee decide to visit TNB personally and give them a piece of his mind:

I am quite sick of seeing her grabbing media headlines actually. However, if you are not sick of her yet, here’s a video of an interview Ris Low did with Shan and Rozz on clicknetwork:

In the video, Ris Low spewed swear words openly and coined another term, “Shingz” to add to her “Boomz” dictionary. She also stripped to her “bigini” at the ending. No doubt a publicity stunt.

Clearly, she loves all the attention, regardless if it’s positive or negative. Are we all going to still lap it up to her to inflate her ego?

The way I see it, she is following closely in the footstep of another Internet superstar – Steven Dragon Lim. Will Ris Low also be opening a modeling agency too in the near future?

Melvin Ryan Tan is one of the few common close friends that Rachel and I share. He left for London to pursue his dream in fashion at the London College of Fashion on 13 September. Always loud and cheerful, we missed his presence.

Rachel and I went to the airport to send him off on the day he left Singapore. We were surprised to see a whole entourage of Melvin’s fans and relatives there, macham like celebrity.

When we arrived at the airport, being the usual diva, Melvin was still busy trying to rearrange his luggage as he had brought too much stuff. It was quite a sight.

Rachel and I also went on air at Radio 100.3 last evening at 7pm with radio deejays, Anna and Ken. Here’s the interview if you missed it (I edited away the songs and commercials):

Rachel and I have both been receiving well-wishes aplenty since yesterday and we are both thankful and appreciative that so many people care for us.

I know this proposal is not perfect and some have voiced concern that it’s a tad gimmicky and I seem to be using “gatecrashing” tactics on Rachel. To clarify, I spent three months planning the execution of the proposal so that everything would go smoothly. Would a person playing hard to get put in so much effort?

I wanted Rachel to have an enjoyable time solving the clues instead of feeling like she is being “sabo-ed”. For instance – I knew Rachel had classes that day, and had planned the clues such that she can solve them quickly during the lunch break and continue after her lesson ends at 5pm. Transport arrangements were also made for her so she did not have to run around tired and sweaty. The collaborators who helped me also knew about this and were helping to manage the timing.

Both Rachel and I are not fans of cheesy gate-crashing and ragging where the groom is made to do silly, meaningless things like putting underwear on his head or drinking questionable fluids, in the name of fun. That’s why I paired a resolution and a gift with each clue. The last thing I want is to humiliate and shame the love of my life on the day of proposal day.

Having said that, as both Rachel and I are work for a media company, we understand the workings of the mass media and communication. Hence, we are taking both positive and negative comments (and headlines) in our stride. Our mood hasn’t been affected at all and we are just glad to have each other. The only reason why I am blogging about this is because some of our good friends expressed concern.
