A recent twitpic (via miltonsau) revealed that Jonal Chong has removed the giant Nicole Kidman poster outside his salon, Jonal Chong Hair Couture (website currently under construction). In place of it is a giant “福”， the Chinese character for prosperity:
Since publishing the Jonal Chong exposé, I received a few emails from readers and friends who expressed amusement over the web of deceit coined by “The Most Accomplished Hairdresser in Singapore”.
One reader topped it by sending me a series of photos titled “Jonal Chong’s Actual Clients” to add to “The Most Accomplished Hairdresser in Singapore” Internet meme:
You may think that such negative publicity would have affected business for the salon. Alas, it was the opposite. Via a news article published in my paper on 10 Jan (Mon):
On the saga’s impact on his business, Mr Chong said: “Actually, my business has boomed by about 25 per cent.”
He said he makes between $5,000 and $10,000 a day, but declined to say if that was before or after the scandal broke. “I have already apologised for everything that I’ve done. What do you want me to do?” he said.
Amazing isn’t it?
His business has actually boomed by 25 per cent!
Maybe more hairstylists should consider photoshopping their images with celebrities too.
