The 17-year-old Raffles Institution (Junior College) student won a bronze medal in the Taekwondo Boys 55kg competition. He defeated Myanmar’s Shein Naing Dwe Shein in the quarter-final this morning, but was knocked out in the semi-final by world junior champion, Iran’s Kaveh Rezaei this evening.

It’s heartening to see a Singapore-born athlete winning a medal, proving that the import of foreign talents is not the  one and only way for Singapore to excel in sports. Moreover, this dude is from RJC – one of the most elite academic institution in Singapore. Who says brain and brawn do not go hand-in-hand? Well done Daryl Tan!
